Importing classic cars will now be easier and faster: what are the changes?

The Government has streamlined the import of classic cars: less bureaucracy, elimination of taxes and faster procedures for collectors and restorers
The Government announced changes to the Import Regimeof Classic Cars to Argentina, reducing bureaucracy and simplifying procedures for collectors and restorers. With Resolution 24/2025 published in the Official Gazette , the aim is to streamline the import process and reduce import costs .
The measure, part of a package of rules aimed at promoting competition and lowering prices in various sectors, eliminates unnecessary requirements that made it difficult for classic vehicles to enter the country.
The Secretary of Industry and Commerce, Esteban Marzorati, stressed that these changes seek to “facilitate access to historic automotive heritage” and encourage the restoration of classic models. With fewer obstacles and greater agility, collectors will be able to access unique vehicles without facing long bureaucratic processes.

One of the main changes is the elimination of the official appraisal of the vehicle , which previously had to be at least $12,000 and not differ by more than 30% from the declared FOB value. According to the new regulations, the original appraisal and customs controls will be sufficient .
Affidavits relating to the possession of foreign currency certified by banks and other documents considered unnecessary were also eliminated . In addition, the Mandatory Special Technical Inspection will no longer be mandatory , since the vehicle registration procedure includes this requirement.
Furthermore, the period of prohibition on the sale or transfer of imported vehicles was reduced from three to two years.
Importers must now process the Classic Motor Vehicle Import Certificate (CIVAC) through the Remote Procedures (TAD) platform . The Import Directorate will have a period of 10 days to evaluate and approve the application.
