Mediapro denounces its founder Jaume Roures

The media company Mediapro has filed a lawsuit against one of its founders, Jaume Rorues, for misappropriation of shares in a company that was part of the group. The lawsuit has been admitted for processing by the court, according to sources close to the company.
The origin of the conflict lies in the Versatil Cinema company, which was initially owned by Globomedia and Mediapro. It later became a global part of Mediapro. It was the subsidiary through which the group produced its films.
The lawsuit, admitted for processing, is to recover the film company's shares. The company's shares were held by Jaume Roures, a situation that persists to this day. Mediapro therefore decided to sue him, according to El Periódico . This is the way the company has found to try to regain control of the aforementioned company.
Jaume Roures was one of the three founders of the company, along with Gerard Romy and Tatxo Benet. Today, only the latter remains with the company.

When Mediapro was founded 30 years ago, it was a company operating in a wide range of activities in the audiovisual sector, from television rights for professional sports to broadcasting and the production of films and television programs.
Mediapro's main shareholder is currently the Southwind Media Group. This Hong Kong-based investment company controls Orient Hontai Capital and, through it, the majority stake in Mediapro (85.6%), followed by the advertising holding company WPP (9.4%).
In 2023, Mediapro formalized the dismissal of Roures as the group's chief executive. The businessman left due to disagreements with the ownership over Mediapro's future direction. While the majority shareholders opted for a sale to operators not affiliated with the sector, Roures reportedly advocated continuing to develop the business model the company had implemented since its founding, while maintaining his management capacity.
Thus, in the fall of 2023, Roures, who also had disagreements with his former partner Tatxo Benet (who still holds 5% of the shares), transferred his 5% stake in Mediapro for a figure that market sources then valued at around €40 million.
Roures has recently refocused his business on real estate and catering.
