Sánchez does not rule out any hypothesis about the blackout, opens an investigation and commissions a report from Brussels.

Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez appeared this Tuesday from Moncloa Palace to announce the launch of a technical investigation into the causes of the blackout that plunged almost the entire country for hours. The leader of the Executive continues to rule out any hypothesis , despite the fact that Red Eléctrica has already rejected the possibility of a cyberattack and attributed the problem to a disconnection from the renewable energy generation system. "It would be imprudent to rule out any hypothesis," he stated minutes before the National Security Council reconvened at 2:00 p.m.

Sánchez confirmed that he learned of the Spanish holding company's assessment through the press and pledged to get to the bottom of the matter and "hold private operators accountable." "We respect that private operators release their information, communicate and rule out certain hypotheses, but I believe it is important that we do so accurately, and this will take as long as necessary," he stated after learning of the initial indications published by the company chaired by Beatriz Corredor.

The president has attacked the opposition for pointing to the low production of nuclear energy as the cause of this crisis. "Those who are linking it to the lack of nuclear power plants are demonstrating their ignorance. Service has been restored thanks to interconnections with France and Morocco, combined gas cycles, and hydroelectric plants, " he explained. "There was nuclear generation operating just before the system collapsed, and it was shut down just like the rest of the technologies; it was no more resilient," he added.

The Socialist explained that the government has created a commission of inquiry within the National Security Council, led by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, which will include input from INCIBE, a cybersecurity agency, and the CNMC. Spain has also asked the European Electricity Coordination Group, which reports to the European Commission, to prepare an independent report on what happened on Monday, given that the electricity system is European.
