YPF Case: US Justice has again summoned Argentina amid the dispute

Judge Loretta Preska gave the parties two weeks to exchange information and ease tensions, but the government ruled out negotiations with the plaintiffs.
The United States Justice Department has again summoned the Argentine government to appear in the YPF lawsuit after the ruling was suspended. The hearing was set for July 29 and will be important in determining whether to authorize access to documents requested by the plaintiffs, the most sensitive issue.
Judge Loretta Preska requested that briefs be exchanged over the next two weeks to try to agree on what information can be shared. The Casa Rosada rules out any negotiations outside the judicial system and has assured that they will not provide information that could compromise state assets.
The New York Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit has provisionally suspended the delivery of YPF shares , which Preska had ordered as part of the $16 billion judgment. The measure will remain in effect indefinitely while the appeal is reviewed.
This is a partial halt until the Court of Appeals responds to Argentina's request to halt Preska's sentence while it is appealed.
According to the court document, the plaintiffs (Burford) must file their opposition to the request by July 17, and the Argentine State must respond by July 22. The final decision will be left to the next available panel of the Court.
The Executive Branch expects the Court of Appeals to decide next week whether to extend the suspension of the ruling or reject it, as Preska did. However, the government will appeal the request to the U.S. Supreme Court if it is not granted a definitive deadline.
This is because the Nation maintains its position that surrendering the shares would cause irreparable harm to Argentina, given the role it plays in the country. Furthermore, they assert that "a partial judgment cannot be enforced" when the underlying ruling has not yet "been reviewed by the higher court."
The National Treasury Attorney's Office has also submitted the initial documents to begin appealing the enforcement of the ruling authorizing the share transfer.
