Tlajomulco rescues two lynxes; more than a thousand have been treated this year.

He Government of Tlajomulco , through the Wildlife Rescue Unit (URFST) and the Municipal Animal Health and Collection Unit (UNASAM) , reported this Sunday the rescue of two small lynxes .
The copies were voluntarily donated to the association " Create Little Footprints ", which coordinated their transfer to the URFST for medical attention. Upon arrival, the veterinary team detected severe dehydration, digestive disorders, and a serious eye infection in one of them . They were immediately provided with stabilization care, hydration, and specialized treatment, the municipal government reported in a statement.
The lynxes were later channeled to the Jardines Comprehensive Veterinary Center , where feline specialists performed laboratory and radiographic studies. One of the animals is already showing significant improvement, while the other remains under intensive medical observation due to anemia.
The director of UNASAM, Luis Alberto Cayo Cervantes , highlighted that these types of cases have become more frequent due to urban growth and Tlajomulco's proximity to natural areas such as Bosque de la Primavera, Cerro Viejo, and Barranca de Huentitán, which makes it necessary to strengthen environmental education and responsible coexistence with wildlife.

Today, we have registered more than 1,400 rescued specimens, and most importantly, 85% have already been returned to their natural habitat. Furthermore, thanks to our environmental education campaigns, more and more people know how to react when faced with wildlife, avoiding endangering the animals and themselves. ", said Cayo Cervantes.
The official emphasized that upon receiving a specimen, veterinary and biological staff conduct a physical, clinical, and behavioral evaluation to determine whether it comes from the wild or from captivity. In most cases, the animals remain for less than 48 hours before being relocated to a safe environment.
The URFST and UNASAM not only serve Tlajomulco, but also support other municipalities in the state with rescue and environmental education efforts, consolidating the municipality as a regional benchmark in animal welfare.
" The recent care provided to two lynx cubs from the municipality of Zapotlán El Grande reflects the technical and human capacity that Tlajomulco has to handle specialized cases and guarantee the recovery of wild species. ", the city council noted.
