UNAPEC announces the First Latin American Biennial of Curriculum Design

APEC University ( Unapec ) announced the first edition of the Latin American Biennial of Contemporary Curriculum Design, to be held on March 12 and 13 with the participation of experts from Latin America and the Caribbean from the educational and business sectors and from more than ten higher education institutions.
Under the motto Curricular Agent for Change, the event , which will take place virtually, has set itself the fundamental purpose of becoming a stage for academic meetings, for the production of curricular knowledge in training processes, which implies the responsibility and social commitment to respond to the key challenges faced by an innovative curricular transformation .
Highlighting the importance of this initiative, Dr. Holguín Haché, rector of APEC, stated that curricular transformation is not only a necessity, but an urgent requirement for the construction of more relevant, flexible and innovative educational systems .
"The curriculum is the main instrument of educational systems to translate what society needs into specific content, competencies and skills in terms of human capital, and therefore cannot be addressed in isolation, but as part of a comprehensive strategy that includes the expansion and improvement of resources for learning , the professional development of teachers, principals and supervisors, and the evaluation of educational quality and the operational efficiency of the system," he said.
He said that regardless of the approach adopted by educational systems to design their curricula, these must reflect the standards of what students should know and be able to do at the end of their training periods.
Among the topics to be discussed, the integration of Artificial Intelligence in university teaching stands out; the curriculum in the geopolitical framework of academic development; the social impact of the curriculum and its influence on the training process; the inclusion of microcredentials in university programs and Curricular Innovation for a comprehensive and dynamic education.
Also Practice as an articulating axis between the actors of the curriculum and Personalization of learning : moving away from the "one size fits all" model.
"Hence the importance of this event , because it will allow us to explore both the theoretical and practical challenges of curricular innovation, based on the fact that the way in which people are educated and trained today will determine whether the countries of the region will be able to transform and offer greater prosperity and opportunities for all," said Yajaira Oviedo, director of the Curricular Development Department of Unapec .
The organizing committee of the First Latin American Biennial of Contemporary Curriculum Design is chaired by distinguished academics, including Dr. Franklyn Holguín Haché, rector of Unapec , and Professor Elsa María Moquete, Interim Academic Vice-Rector.
