Milei's flights: The government provided details of the president's trips and how much he spent.

President Javier Milei is in Rome to attend Pope Francis' funeral , marking his 21st trip since taking office. In 2024 alone, he led 16 visits , spending a total of US$2.75 million on airfare and accommodations . However, he still has to add the five trips he made this year, or one per month.

Obviously, the figure includes private flights, accommodations and expenses incurred not only by the head of state but also by his entourage, which in most cases included his sister and general secretary of the Presidency, Karina Milei , his Minister of Economy, Luis "Toto" Caputo and Foreign Minister Gerardo Werthein .

Also part of the official delegations were the Ministers of Defense, Luis Petri; Security, Patricia Bullrich; and Human Capital, Sandra Pettovello; and the head of the advisory cabinet, Demián Reidel. According to data published in the latest report by Chief of Staff Guillermo Francos , in the last stretch of 2024 alone, the State had to pay more than US$470,000 for expenses incurred on three trips by Milei , government officials, and the presidential security detail.

It's almost a no-brainer to say that Milei's most popular destination was the United States, where he traveled to different cities a dozen times since being elected President of Argentina. However, what the political opposition in Congress most questions is not that, but rather the reasons for the President's outings, as some were linked to partisan interests, such as his appearance at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in the United States and Brazil.

In addition to his participation in the "Europa Viva 24" conference, an event hosted by the Spanish VOX party, attended by far-right leaders such as Marine Le Pen, where the leader of La Libertad Avanza attacked Spanish President Pedro Sánchez. He also participated in his trips to Spain and Germany to receive several awards.

On her first trip to Davos in January 2024, Milei participated in the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF), where she held her first meeting as President with the Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva . Back in February of last year, she led an official tour of Israel, Italy, and the Vatican. Milei and her entourage traveled on a scheduled flight, and the hotel expenses totaled approximately $105 million, or US$95,500 .

In his first appearance at the conservative conference in the United States as president of Argentina, Milei spent more than $38 million on airfare and accommodation, which, converted into dollars, amounts to about US$35,000 . He then embarked on a tour that spanned the United States, where he gave a lecture at a Stanford University institute in San Francisco and then traveled to El Salvador to meet with President Nayib Bukele , at a total cost of US$270,000.

Later, Milei toured Italy and Switzerland to participate in the G7 Summit and a peace meeting, which cost a total of US$285,000 . Her next stop, at the end of June, included trips to Spain, Germany, and the Czech Republic, with airfare and hotel expenses totaling US$237,000. In July, she traveled to Camboriú for a party meeting with former President Jair Bolsonaro, which cost US$21,200.

In July, he gave a conference in Sun Valley, costing approximately US$406,000 in travel and accommodation. Meanwhile, his trip to France to participate in the opening of the Paris Olympic Games and a reception hosted by Emmanuel Macron cost approximately US$366,000. A trip to an event in Chile cost a total of US$10,740.

Already in the last quarter of last year, the President spent more than US$280,000 on his September trip to New York, where he attended the United Nations General Assembly. There, he spoke at the opening of the trading day at the Wall Street Stock Exchange. He also met with his Ecuadorian counterpart, Daniel Noboa, and with the President of the European Commission, Ursula vonder Leyen. Rounding out the agenda was a meeting with the CEO of Tesla Inc., Mr. Elon Musk.

Meanwhile, in November 2024, he was in Palm Beach, where he participated in a conservative meeting also attended by Donald Trump, then president-elect. A total of US$172,800 was paid for the private flight and accommodation. That same month, he traveled to Rio de Janeiro for the G20 Summit, where he met with Chinese President Xi Jinping and World Bank and International Monetary Fund officials, at a total cost of US$19,000.

The expenses involved in this year's trips remain to be determined. There were five trips in total: two to the United States, Switzerland, Paraguay, and Italy.
