The CSIC will set up shop in the DAT Alierta technology park in Zaragoza to research and create an energy hub.

New tenant in the Aragonese technology district DAT Alierta in Zaragoza. The CSIC Aragón has announced the reservation of two new plots , totaling approximately 25,000 square meters, to provide more space for research and to house the various research groups. This will also create an energy hub to give visibility and greater relevance to the devices and technologies developed in recent years within the Institute of Carbon Chemistry (ICB).
These two plots in the Alierta Research and Development Center (DAT) in Zaragoza will allow for the expansion of the CSIC's facilities in Aragon , which currently have one regional unit and five research institutes. Specifically, it will add 5,241 square meters in an area adjacent to the ICB ( Central Research Center for Energy and Sustainability), a leading center for energy and sustainability, located near the Río Ebro campus since 1994.
In addition, it will have an additional 20,287 square meters available for new facilities to expand the space available for the institutes and develop current and future projects, as well as providing more space for its various research groups.
The CSIC's plans include developing an energy hub on the plot near the ICB (Central Biosphere Reserve) to concentrate and highlight both the devices and technologies that have been developed in recent years, primarily focusing on areas such as CO2 capture, climate change, air pollution, and waste recovery.
It has also covered other fields such as hydrogen and renewable fuel production, nanoscience and nanotechnology, and the development of new sensors, batteries, and fuel cells.
The energy hub aims to facilitate technology transfer to the business community , particularly in Aragon, helping to establish synergies in this field between the CSIC itself, universities, technology centers, and energy sector companies. In fact, in recent years, the CSIC Aragón has promoted various demonstration facilities and test benches for the development of advanced technologies.
Currently, the CSIC has around 600 professionals, of whom 220 are staff researchers . As a result of its activities, more than 700 scientific articles are published annually and 241 projects are underway, representing a budget of more than 63 million euros for the CSIC Aragón, raised through various calls, contracts, and funds within the Government of Spain's Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan.
The announcement of the reservation of the two plots in the Alierta DAT was made public after a meeting with the Government of Aragon, although the agreement had previously been published in the Official Gazette of Aragon (BOA) today.
This space reservation follows those recently announced by Siemens in the business building, as well as CIRCE , with an investment of 20 million, which became the first tenant to announce its establishment in the Alierta DAT (Technical Training Center); the vocational training center ; and the renovation of the Aragón CEEI ( Center for Vocational Training) .
