During Sunday's concert at the Summer Theatre in Szczecin, "Letters to Adele", which crowned the celebrations of the city's 80th anniversary, the editorial office of "Kurier Szczeciński", also celebrating its 80th anniversary this year, awarded special anniversary awards in three categories covering the most important plebiscites in the region organized for several decades - Sports Plebiscite, "Amber Ring" and "All Szczecin in Flowers". Congratulations were also received by "Kurier Szczeciński".

The Sports Plebiscite of the "Kurier Szczeciński" has been organized for over 70 years. It is one of the oldest sports plebiscites in Poland. In the Sports Plebiscites of the "Kurier Szczeciński" for the best athletes and coaches of our province, it is impossible to ignore the achievements of the doyen of West Pomeranian cycling, Waldemar Mosbauer, and there were also periods of domination by water polo players and rowers, but on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of "Kurier" with the jubilee award of the 80th anniversary of "Kurier Szczeciński" in the category "Sports Plebiscite of the "Kurier Szczeciński" for the best athletes and coaches of the West Pomeranian province", the jury of the competition decided to especially honor - due to the charisma of the Black Pearl from Wielgowo and the popularity of the discipline - the footballer of Pogoń Szczecin Marian Kielc. Marian Kielec was a long-time captain of port workers and a representative of the country. In the navy blue and burgundy colours, he scored as many as 120 goals in official league and cup matches, and in the 1962/63 season he became the top scorer in the Ekstraklasa. Sitting on the reserve bench, he was elated and in 1971 he ended his career prematurely, becoming a sailor, but eight years later he tried to help Pogoń stay in the Ekstraklasa. Then he left for Canada, but he returned to the town of Gryf permanently and we regularly see him at matches on Twardowskiego (after one of the matches recently we met him riding home just before midnight in a crowded tram, and he did not avoid talking to fans), and sometimes he also visits our editorial office. Unfortunately, Mr. Marian Kielec could not appear in the amphitheatre due to family reasons. On his behalf, the award donated by the "Siemaszko" company was received by Olgierd Moskalewicz, also a distinguished Pogoń player.

The "Amber Ring" plebiscite is a prestigious competition for the best stage artists and the most interesting performances of West Pomeranian theatres, organized by "Kurier Szczeciński", the oldest theatre competition in West Pomerania. The first edition took place in 1965, but in the 1970s and 1980s, due to socio-political events, it was not organized regularly. Since the 1990s, it has been held continuously, and the rules have remained almost unchanged: audience voting and jury selection. The jubilee award of the 80th anniversary of "Kurier Szczeciński" in the "Amber Ring" category for an outstanding actor/actress of West Pomeranian stages was unanimously awarded to Anna Januszewska - for many outstanding roles on the stage of the Contemporary Theatre in Szczecin and a significant artistic contribution to shaping the formula and building the prestige of Szczecin theatre. The award was funded by the Marshal of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship.

The plebiscite "All Szczecin in Flowers" has been organized by "Kurier Szczeciński" for over half a century, encouraging the city's residents to show the green oases they have created. It is addressed to all Szczecin residents, as well as schools, workplaces, institutions and social organizations. The competition is held in the categories: balconies, home gardens, other forms of green area development and allotment gardens.

The editorial jury awarded the jubilee prize of the 80th anniversary of "Kurier Szczeciński" in the category "All Szczecin in Flowers" funded by the City of Szczecin to Mr. Wiesław Użarowski in the hands of his daughter Beata Użarowska, who is the continuator of his work. Wiesław Użarowski (1947-2009) undertook numerous activities for the local community. He was a passionate social activist. It is to him that Szczecin owes, among others, the castle exhibitions entitled Flowers and Birds, as well as many other exhibitions - from cacti and orchids, through canaries, to cats. Thanks to him, one of the city streets has Gen. Stanisław Sosabowski as its patron, the cathedral escarpment - a floral map of Poland, and crowds of the most talented youth received scholarships on his initiative, funded by the Society of Friends of Szczecin, of which he was a co-founder. For decades he was associated with our most famous, popular and valued of green competitions "All Szczecin in Flowers", in which he triumphed many times in the category of balconies, and later also other forms of home land development. The award was presented to Mr. Wiesław's daughter - Beata Użarowska - by the vice-president of Szczecin Michał Przepiera.

On the occasion of the anniversary, congratulations and best wishes were extended to the editorial office of “Kurier Szczeciński” by the Mayor of Szczecin, Piotr Krzystek, and the Marshal of West Pomerania, Olgierd Geblewicz.

– For eight decades, “Kurier Szczeciński” has been not only a witness to, but also an active participant in the history of Western Pomerania. By reporting on everyday events, commenting on social and political changes, supporting local initiatives and promoting the culture and identity of the region, the newspaper has become an inseparable element of the Szczecin media landscape,” emphasized President Piotr Krzystek.

Marshal Olgierd Geblewicz noted with appreciation that "the uninterrupted functioning of the newspaper for eight decades, and in Polish hands at that, is not only an extremely impressive achievement, but also a reason for pride for the entire community of Western Pomerania. In times of dynamic development of the Internet and digitalization, when many traditional media are disappearing from the market or losing their position, "Kurier Szczeciński" still enjoys huge interest among readers," added the marshal.

On this occasion, the editorial office of "Kurier Szczeciński" received a commemorative bronze medal of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship from the Marshal. ©℗
