Secret Service agent captured in Kennedy assassination photos dies
Hill was convinced that he could have saved the president's life. Shortly after his retirement, he gave an interview to CBS in which he admitted that he felt responsible for the death of the head of state.
- If I had reacted five tenths of a second faster, maybe a second faster, I wouldn't be here today - he said, suggesting that he could have shielded the president from the bullets. Asked if this meant he was ready to shield the president with his own body, he replied: "Yes, I would have no problem with that."
- I feel a huge amount of guilt about it. If I had turned the other way I would have been fine. It was my fault - he said.
Years later, however, Hill admitted that he returned to the site of the Dallas attack and concluded that he could not save the president's life.
