Senior citizen ran red light. He ended up in handcuffs at police station

On June 25, returning from a funeral, Mr. Piotr crossed a red light at a roundabout in Poznań . The whole thing was watched by traffic policemen who decided to intervene. It's hard to believe everything that happened later.
- I entered the pedestrian crossing on a green light. Then I realized that I was already crossing on a red light, because it had changed. And since I looked and there was nothing coming, I walked that distance - says Piotr Królikiewicz.
Everything was noticed by the policemen in the patrol car.
- A moment later I entered the store, I didn't see a police car. Later on the recordings I saw that it drove there - adds Mr. Piotr.
Poznań. Senior citizen ran a red light. He ended up in handcuffs at the police stationThe man entered the store to buy water. Police officers entered right after him, claiming that the 68-year-old and sick Mr. Piotr was running away from them . The provisions of the Police Act state that an officer should start a conversation with a citizen by introducing himself, stating his rank, unit, and the reason for the check. This conversation, however, started differently.
This is a record of events from the policewoman's body camera:
Policeman: Okay, enough fooling around. We pay for the water and leave.
Mr. Piotr: What kind of silliness are you talking about? Who are you addressing?
Policeman: Sir, you pay for the water and we're leaving. Either do it politely or I'll help you right away.
Mr. Piotr: Well, help me, well, help me, if you are so smart.
Policeman: You'll go pay for the water, right?
- They should introduce themselves, then they should say what they want, what they want from me. Then I would listen and a normal conversation would take place between us - comments Piotr Królikiewicz.
- They did not explain what the actual reason for the intervention was. This approach simply caused escalation - says Andrzej Mroczek from Collegium Civitas.

This is a further record of events from the policewoman's body camera recording:
Policeman: We're leaving, I said!
Mr. Piotr: Please don't push me!
Policeman: We are leaving or I will use direct coercion.
Mr. Piotr: What right do you have to push me? Please don't touch me.
Policeman: Are you leaving willingly or should I help you?
Mr. Piotr: I'll call you right away.
Policeman: As far as I’m concerned you can even call the Pope, we’re leaving.
Mr. Peter: But please don't touch me.
Policeman: Did you hear we're leaving? Do you want it the easy way or do you...
Mr. Piotr: Please don't touch me! I'm an invalid! What are you... What are you doing?

- I push his hand away so he doesn't hurt me, I talk to the policeman, I shout, I call: what are you doing? I'm an invalid. Please leave me alone. And at that moment his aggression increased by 100 percent - Piotr Królikiewicz reports.
- There was a scuffle , which ultimately ended with the police taking the position that they would not allow such unlawful actions on the part of a person who did not want to submit to a simple ID check - explains Junior Inspector Andrzej Borowiak from the Police in Poznań.
He felt bad at the police station. He lay on the floor for half an hour.Mr. Piotr is taken to the police station , where he learns that the reason for his arrest is two offenses - crossing a red light and not showing his ID. At one point, the man reports to the police that he does not feel well.
This is another record of events from the policewoman's body camera footage:
- The reason you were brought here is that you failed to produce your documents and failed to intervene.
- No, no one wanted any documents from me. I was in a store, I was attacked. Are you an officer, excuse me?
- I'm not.
- Can I speak to an officer, please?
- There are none at the moment.
- I was attacked by a lady and a gentleman.
- They will surely advise you where you can file a complaint.
- But I don't feel well, sir, that's why I asked for a doctor.
- If you give me your details, the ambulance will come. They won't come earlier because they don't know who to call. Get up! Hello! Get up! Hello!

The ambulance arrives about half an hour later. During this time, Mr. Piotr lies on the floor . "Interwencja" journalists also obtained a recording of the policemen's conversation with the paramedics:
- What is this?
- The perpetrator of the offense did not want to identify himself.
- Sadness. Sleep tight, sweet prince.
Then the paramedic turns to Mr. Piotr:
- Good morning! What's going on? You can stop pretending now and get tested. What's going on?
- I'm beaten.
- By whom? What are you pretending? That what happened to you? You know that I'll ask this nice gentleman to issue you a ticket for an unjustified summons. Get up! Okay, sir, let's get up, because I don't have time.
- My hands hurt!
- Sir, don't be so stiff, for God's sake. Straighten that leg. Tie that leg.
- I'm going to ask for help!
- Sir, if you interfere there will be no help.
- I feel bad, please take this off.
- No, you are a detained person and as long as you are a detained person, you will be handcuffed.
The full "Intervention" material can be viewed HERE .
- A person suspected of committing a crime is handcuffed with their hands held behind their backs. You violated the physical integrity of police officers, and this is a crime - says Andrzej Borowiak from the Poznań Police.
The problem is that Mr. Piotr hears at the police station that he was handcuffed because of the offense of running a red light and the intention to establish his identity, which is confirmed by the recordings .
Only two hours after being taken to the police station does the man learn that he has been detained on suspicion of violating the integrity of police officers.
The verdict in the case will be announced in AprilThe 68-year-old senior spent about 30 hours in a police detention center. At the end of April, the verdict will be announced in the case in which Piotr Królikiewicz is accused of violating the physical integrity of police officers. Together with him, a journalist from "Interwencja: they returned to the store where the case began.
SEE: Terrible pain after surgery. Doctors did not help
Employee: I remember that gentleman. It was your defense, he defended himself.
Reporter: And now they say he violated their integrity.
Employee: No, no one, no one… There was a girl and a policeman there.
- I don't fully believe it. I don't fully believe it, that's why I turned to the television, so that the television could publicize this matter, so that the citizens could have an opportunity to evaluate it - sums up Piotr Królikiewicz.
