The initiator, founder, and organizer of this highly successful event was the aforementioned T. Bandrowicz from the "Sportis" Association. The Przemyśl Sports and Recreation Center was a co-organizer. The event was financed from the 2025 Citizens' Budget.
"In 2009, when I attended my first bocce training abroad in Italy and saw a bocce track in person, I thought it would be great to adapt something like that to the Przemyśl environment. In many European countries, such as Italy, Portugal, and Croatia, you can find similar facilities where residents of a given city meet, play bocce matches, bond, and release emotions through recreation and competition. These are largely senior citizens."
- he said.
He shared his idea during the implementation of projects funded by the so-called Norwegian Funds. It was approved by the Przemyśl city council. In 2023, the only indoor bocce court in Europe, built 100 percent in compliance with Special Olympics regulations, was built in Przemyśl.
"Having such a facility at our disposal, it was a natural step to start organizing tournaments. Initially, these were tournaments exclusively for players with intellectual disabilities. In 2025, we expanded the format and invited all interested residents of the city to participate, as part of the participatory budget. I sincerely hope that this new form of activity will catch on in Przemyśl and that the number of bocce fans will grow year by year."
– added T. Bandrowicz.
Bocce has been played in Przemyśl since 2006. Back then, the first Special Olympics Podkarpackie Bocce Tournament was held, with just four players participating. It was a new sport, and few people were familiar with it. Currently, in the 12th and 13th editions of the same tournament, between 50 and 70 players are participating.
We know the best players in PrzemyślAs mentioned, T. Bandrowicz managed to organize regular competitions. On July 16th of this year, the first edition of the Przemyśl Bocce League 2025 concluded, culminating in a ceremonial award ceremony. Participants included Monika Malik from the Department of Education and Sport at the Przemyśl City Hall, Joanna Szałajko (manager of the sports hall at the Przemyśl Sports and Recreation Center), and Izabela Iwanicka (POSiR).
Twenty-six participants competed in three age categories (8 children, 6 youth, 12 adults). The youngest participant was 7 years old, the oldest 65. A total of 77 matches were played over three weeks. Monika Musiał was the main referee, Laura Musiał the flag referee, and the coordinator was the aforementioned T. Bandrowicz.
The awards were sponsored by Councilor Bartłomiej Barczak, the Przemyśl Sports and Recreation Center, the Department of Promotion and Culture of the Przemyśl City Hall, and Henkel – Daria Kuźnik. Organizational support was provided by Magdalena Psiur, Katarzyna Płocica, and Ama Bechawska.
It is worth adding that already in September this year you will be able to cast your vote for the next edition of the Przemyśl Bocce League 2026, of course as part of the 2026 Citizens' Budget.
