The tram on Opolska Street will reach the city limits!
Date created:
The city is planning another major transport investment! Opolska Street will be rebuilt. Among other things, the tram track will be extended and the roadway on this important route in the east of Wrocław will be rebuilt.
– As announced, we have announced a tender for the concept and design of the reconstruction of Opolska Street. We want to extend the tram route from Księże Małe to Księże Wielkie beyond Brochowska Street, which is practically to the borders of Wrocław with the Siechnice commune. As part of this investment, we also plan to deal with road infrastructure, including the expansion of the intersection system, bicycle infrastructure - also on Krakowska Street from Wielka Wyspa Avenue, sidewalks, new stops, pedestrian crossings and greenery. We want to plant as much of it as possible so that Opolska Street gains the character of an avenue - says Jacek Sutryk, the mayor of Wrocław.
Due to the fact that we pass through areas protected in terms of monuments and important archaeological sites, the investment will be agreed with the provincial conservator of monuments.
The investment also includes, among other things, work on the reconstruction of the water and sewage network.
The city wants the new terminus to be a tram and bus terminus, and a park and ride for drivers and cyclists and the necessary infrastructure will be built at it. In the future, electric buses are to stop at the terminus, so the designer is to plan a reserve of space for a transformer station and for channels leading wires to pantographs.
– The designer is to prepare documentation for a two-way, separate bus and tram track on the section from one track on Opolska Street to the planned loop with the possibility of extending the lane towards Krakowska Street - in the case of existing terrain conditions. On the entire section covered by the study, the designer is to provide for a two-way, separate tram and bus track on one side of Opolska Street. For this purpose, it is permissible, among other things, to move the roadway for cars – says Wojciech Kaim, from Wrocławskie Inwestycje, which will supervise the task.
In total, the road area covered by the planned investment is almost 3 km. 2.3 km of new track is to be built. The designer will have 18 months to prepare documentation for this task from the moment the contract is concluded. The task will be subject to public consultations.
