Tragedy in Sosnowiec. He attacked police with a machete. Shots were fired.

A dramatic police intervention in Sosnowiec. A man who took to the streets with a machete in the early morning hours, damaging cars and a bus, has died. The attacker also attempted to attack officers and was ultimately shot.

The Silesian Police reported on Thursday morning about the intervention undertaken by officers from Sosnowiec , who were called to a man walking on the street with a dangerous object.

"Today at approximately 5:00 a.m., Sosnowiec police were called to an intervention on Mikołajczyka Street , where, according to reports , an agitated man was walking along the street with a machete in his hand. He had previously damaged parked passenger cars and a city bus," the report stated.

According to the statement, after police officers arrived at the scene, the man directed his aggression at the officers. Due to the immediate threat to life and limb, the officers used their firearms , firing shots at the attacker.

WATCH: They planned to ambush another team's fans. They threw logs in front of the police.

"Due to the injuries sustained by the attacker, an ambulance crew was dispatched to the scene. The man was transported to hospital, where he died, " the release said.

Activities are still underway at the scene under the supervision of the prosecutor, and Mikołajczyka Street is therefore completely closed.
