According to NIPiP, as many as 16% of all antibiotic prescriptions are for wound care, which shows the urgent need to implement more effective therapeutic strategies. The competition is a chance to appreciate nurses and midwives who are changing the future of wound care every day, improving the quality of treatment and the comfort of patients' lives.

The competition aims to reward nurses and midwives who set new standards in wound therapy. Specialists will be assessed in terms of treatment effectiveness, innovative methods, educational activity and professionalism in communication with patients.

- Nurses and midwives are the foundation of effective wound therapy, but their work often takes place in conditions of limited access to modern tools and system support. Every day they fight to improve the quality of care for patients with wounds, making key therapeutic decisions. The "Ambassadors of professional wound therapy" competition is an opportunity to distinguish nurses and midwives who set new standards of treatment and inspire others to implement effective solutions. I believe that thanks to this initiative, it will be possible to emphasize their role and motivate the medical community to further development - said Mariola Łodzińska, President of the Supreme Council of Nurses and Midwives, quoted in the release.

Best Practices in Wound Therapy. Important Criteria

Evaluation of applications is based on key criteria such as:

  • effectiveness of wound treatment and reduction of complications,
  • innovation in the use of modern dressings and antiseptics,
  • educational activity and promotion of prevention,
  • professionalism in communication with patients and continuous professional development.

Modern wound therapy is much more than just changing dressings. Complex treatment strategies are playing an increasingly important role, including the use of advanced and modern antiseptics, e.g. based on octenidine, control of bacterial biofilm and care for proper preparation of the wound bed.

As indicated in the press release, the treatment of chronic wounds in Poland is still often limited to basic dressing changes, without full use of innovative therapeutic methods.

As a result, many patients experience complications that could be limited by more effective prevention and appropriately selected solutions. Standardization and access to modern tools are necessary, which will allow nurses and midwives to help patients more effectively. Therefore, the competition will distinguish specialists who, through their knowledge and commitment, set a new direction in wound therapy.

- In the era of increasing antibiotic resistance, it is necessary to implement methods more widely that will reduce the unnecessary use of antibiotics while effectively treating wounds. The key is an approach based on local therapy - appropriate antiseptics, elimination of bacterial biofilm and the use of advanced antimicrobial agents, such as octenidine, polyhexanidine or others from the group recommended in the Kramer Consensus, which can significantly shorten the treatment time and reduce the number of complications. The "Ambassadors of professional wound therapy" competition is an opportunity to appreciate nurses and midwives who consciously implement these strategies in their daily practice - added Jolanta Dynarska, deputy director for nursing at the West Pomeranian Oncology Center, expert of the Wounds under control campaign, quoted in the release.

The aforementioned campaign "Wounds under Control" aims to increase public awareness of wound-related problems and improve standards of care and treatment. The initiative aims to develop a strategy that will effectively reduce the risk of infections and wounds in high-risk groups, such as patients with diabetes or venous insufficiency. One element of this strategy will be to raise the level of importance of antisepsis and body decolonization to limit the spread of microorganisms and combat antibiotic resistance.
