A new role for the Oscar winner. Mikey Madison will star in a fantasy thriller

The "Anora" star was the surprise winner of this year's Oscars. Mikey Madison beat out Demi Moore, who was tipped to win the statuette for her memorable performance in the acclaimed horror film "The Substance." The 26-year-old actress, who recently turned down a role in a new production from the "Star Wars" universe, has chosen her next project. It is a thriller with fantasy elements titled "Reptilia," in which Madison will partner Kirsten Dunst.

Her performance in last year's comedy-drama "Anora" turned out to be a springboard to success for Mikey Madison . Although the 26-year-old American also has roles in the 5th part of the "Scream" film series and Quentin Tarantino's "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" , it was her participation in Sean Baker's production that brought her to the acting premier league of Hollywood.

In the acclaimed film, the rising star of the Dream Factory portrayed a young stripper who marries a Russian oligarch. The heroine must then face her in-laws, who come to the US with a plan to annul their marriage. For her performance, Madison received a BAFTA award, an Independent Spirit statuette , and the most important trophy in the film industry, an Oscar.

Mikey Madison Returns to Work After Oscar Break

Meanwhile, as Variety reports, the newly-minted Academy Award winner has chosen her next project. Madison, who recently turned down an offer to star in an upcoming Star Wars movie starring Ryan Gosling, has decided to star in the production by Colombian-Ecuadorian director and screenwriter Alejandro Landes Echavarría.

The film is a fantasy thriller titled "Reptilia," starring Kirsten Dunst . The plot description says the film will tell the story of a dental hygienist who is seduced by an enigmatic siren and then drawn into the dark world of the exotic animal trade in Florida.

The film will be co-written by Echavarría and Duke Merriman , who previously worked on the short film So Good to See You starring Sienna Miller . Reptilia will be produced by AF Films and independent production company Black Bear Productions . Filming is set to begin this fall. There’s no word on when the film will hit theaters. The director of the upcoming thriller has directed three feature films to date — Cocalero, Porfirio and 2019’s Monos . His latest film, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, won the World Cinema Dramatic Special Jury Award and then went on to win Best Film at the London Film Festival.
