The creators of "The Untouchables" have begun filming a new comedy about a 13-year-old boy who is "stuck in between"

Eric Toledano and Olivier Nakache, the creators of the acclaimed "The Intouchables," have begun filming their ninth feature film, "Just An Illusion." A coming-of-age story set in the mid-1980s on the outskirts of Paris, starring Simon Torreton, Camille Cottin, Louis Garrel, and Pierre Lottin.

"Just An Illusion" will take place in 1985. The main character will be a 13-year-old boy, played by Simon Torreton. The boy, who comes from a middle-class family and lives in the suburbs of Paris, has an ignoring older brother and constantly arguing parents. In this atmosphere, he will look for answers to questions about his identity, friendship, family, first feelings, and why adults can never sort anything out.

- He's stuck in between. He's not a child anymore, but he's not an adult either. It's a unique moment of separation where you emerge from the sheltered state of childhood to discover certain realities that you were previously sheltered from. These realities are both disturbing and fascinating - Toledano and Nakache say about the main character of their film, quoted by Screen Daily.

It is set to be the most personal film by either director. The decision to set it in the mid-1980s was prompted by a desire to set it in "a creative and vibrant decade on the edge of modernity that shapes the lives of many of us today."

It reminds the filmmakers of this transitional period, which is adolescence. Nostalgia for that period is supposed to be one of the production's assets.

The film's title is borrowed from a 1982 song, also titled "Just An Illusion," by British trio Imagination. The production is set to feature numerous musical hits from that decade.

The French premiere is scheduled for October 14, 2026.
