33-year-old recreational fisherman dies on São Jorge Island

A 33-year-old recreational fisherman died on Sunday in Poça dos Frades, in the municipality of Velas, on the island of São Jorge, in the Azores, the National Maritime Authority (AMN) reported today.
According to AMN, the fisherman died “after allegedly diving while practicing underwater fishing.”
The victim was removed from the water and transported to the port of Velas, where the death certificate was issued by the Health Delegate.
The alert for the occurrence was received by the PSP, around 15:50 on Sunday (16:50 on the mainland), and “elements from the Local Command of the Maritime Police of Horta and the Volunteer Firefighters of Velas were immediately activated to the location”,
After contacting the Public Prosecutor's Office, the body was transported to the Calheta health center morgue by firefighters.
