Accident in Serra da Estrela caused two deaths and one serious injury
The skidding of a goods van in the Serra da Estrela tunnel area, between Piornos and Torre, this Wednesday, July 2nd, caused two deaths and one serious injury.
The alert was given at 3:47 pm and, according to the website of the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority, 40 operators, 14 vehicles and a helicopter were mobilized for the incident.
Infraestruturas de Portugal said that the accident on the EN338 between Piornos and Torre, in Serra da Estrela, involved a vehicle from a company providing services to IP.
The vehicle fell into a ravine over 100 meters high. The deaths of the two fatal victims, both men, were confirmed at the scene by doctors from the Emergency Medical and Resuscitation Vehicle.
The injured man was removed by rescue teams, who had the support of a helicopter.
