The announcement, published in the Official Gazette (DR), includes two lots, the first of which, with a base value of 1,260 euros, includes 11 lambs of the Bordaleira de Entre Douro e Minho breed, three offspring of the Bravia breed, two rejected goats of the Bravia breed, 11 rejected sheep of the Bordaleira de Entre Douro e Minho breed and one Churra do Minho breed reject sheep”.
In the second lot, there is a Bísara pig for sale for €300.
Contacted by the Lusa news agency, the Councillor for the Environment and Green Spaces, Gonçalo Rodrigues, explained that the sale is made “whenever the number of animals exceeds the capacity of the Quinta de Pentieiros facilities and raises pressure problems on the pastures”.
The head of the Ponte de Lima Council , in the district of Viana do Castelo, explained that the base value of the public auction is defined after consultation with the agricultural market.
Those interested in purchasing the animals must submit proposals by March 10 and must keep them for 30 days from the end of that date.
Quinta de Pentieiros is part of the Protected Area of the Lagoons of Bertiandos and São Pedro d'Arcos, created in 2000 when José Sócrates was Minister of the Environment.
The Protected Area includes facilities for heritage interpretation, such as an environmental interpretation center, a network of ecological trails and historical-cultural routes. The Pentieiros farm has a three-star campsite and caravan park, a hostel (the farm's former stables), bungalows (accommodation units that complement the campsite), a reception center, an educational farm, a forest park, a country house and a watch house.
