Caldense cyclist João Almeida suffered a serious fall today, about 5.5 kilometers from the finish line of the seventh stage, which linked Saint-Malo to Mûr-de-Bretagne Guerlédan, a stretch of 197 kilometers with many hills.
João Almeida was among the favorites when the crash occurred, which also involved, for example, Buitrago.
There is still no news regarding the condition of the Caldense athlete, who finished the stage around 10 minutes behind his teammate and leader, Tadej Pogacar, who is wearing the yellow jersey and is in great shape to confirm his favoritism for victory.
João Almeida lost places and dropped to 28th overall, about 12 minutes behind the leader. The Caldas native came to the Tour de France to work for the Slovenian and is on track to celebrate at the finish.
The dream of a podium finish becomes more difficult, but not impossible, especially since there are still 14 stages to compete in, with lots of high mountains.
Tomorrow, the eighth stage, is mostly flat and therefore suitable for sprinters, with no major differences expected in the overall standings.
