A year and a half later, José Luís Carneiro was elected secretary general of the PS with 95.4% of the vote, and more votes than when he ran against Pedro Nuno Santos . The new socialist secretary general promises to be a "considerate person", with a "sense of responsibility" and his PS will be a "loyal, responsible, firm and energetic opposition". But he warns that the party "will use all oversight instruments to oppose wrong, unfair and ineffective measures". Is Carneiro just a transitional leader in a weakened Socialist Party?
