Juliana Marins died from trauma from the fall, says new report

The new autopsy performed on the body of Juliana Marins , who died after falling from Mount Rinjani in Indonesia, confirmed that the Brazilian died as a result of multiple injuries caused by a fall from a great height.

The results are similar to those reported by authorities in the Asian country , who performed an initial forensic examination of Juliana's body four days after the accident. However, Brazilian experts indicate that the condition of the body made further analysis difficult.

According to the Rio de Janeiro Forensic Medical Institute (IML), Juliana suffered internal bleeding caused by severe injuries to vital organs, consistent with the impact. Fractures were identified in the pelvis, chest, and skull.

The IML report also indicates that it was not possible to determine the exact time of death , but estimates that the Brazilian woman would have survived for a maximum of 15 minutes after the impact.

In the period between her fall and death, Juliana was unable to move or react effectively due to intense "endocrine, metabolic, and immunological stress," according to the document. Experts do not rule out the possibility that she underwent an "agonal period" of physical and mental suffering during the progressive failure of her body.

However, doctors point out that the body, which was embalmed before arriving in Brazil , compromised the autopsy, preventing the analysis of clinical signs such as hypothermia, disorientation, dehydration, or possible signs of sexual violence. The analysis did not identify traumatic injuries to the genital region.

"Considering, solely and exclusively, the victim's body, the expert concludes that it was impaired by the time lapse and the embalming conditions in which the body arrived," the report states. The information was revealed by TV Globo .

Family requested a new autopsy

The expert examination was carried out at the request of Juliana's family, who requested a new autopsy from the Federal Court to clarify the cause of the Brazilian woman's death. The justification for the procedure is that the examinations carried out in the Asian country still left doubts about the circumstances in which Juliana died, especially regarding the time of death. A private expert also accompanied the procedures carried out by the Civil Police.

The report released by Indonesian authorities indicated that severe chest trauma resulting from a strong impact caused internal bleeding and damaged vital organs. Furthermore, the document also estimated that Juliana died about 20 minutes after suffering the injuries, without showing signs of hypothermia.

However, drone video recorded by a group of tourists shows that Juliana was still alive about three hours after the accident. It's unclear whether the impact injury identified at the autopsy was a consequence of the first fall or whether she suffered a subsequent accident that ultimately led to her death.

For the family, confirming the exact time of death and checking for possible signs of hypothermia was essential to determine whether the death could have been caused by the delay in the rescue . The Brazilian woman's body was recovered amid a series of logistical and structural difficulties that compromised the operation.
