Fernando Pinto highlighted that concessions "must be very well controlled".
Former TAP CEO Fernando Pinto said on Wednesday that the airline should be privatized and that the process must be done with a "good partner" and with "excellent negotiation".
"I believe in a privatized company, I think it should be, it has to be with a good partner and with an excellent negotiation", said Fernando Pinto, who is being heard in parliament, at the request of IL, within the scope of the conclusions of the General Inspectorate of Finance (IGF), on the purchase of Manutenção e Engenharia Brasil (VEM/TAP ME Brasil).
When asked about the privatization of airports, which led to the concession to ANA/Vinci for 50 years, Fernando Pinto considered that airport infrastructures must be private, but stressed that concessions "must be very well controlled", with a "very strong" monitoring system.
Speaking to journalists at the end of the hearing, Fernando Pinto considered that it makes sense for TAP to be sold to an airline, or someone with connections and knowledge of the airline market.
"Purely one investor doesn't work", he argued, pointing out that the participation of Portuguese investor Humberto Pedrosa in the past "was very good", because it is necessary to have someone with the country's culture.
Regarding the percentage to be sold, Fernando Pinto said that this is a decision for the State, but, depending on the company that enters, if the agreement is good, it does not need to keep the majority of the airline, what it needs is a management agreement for the company.
"My management at TAP has always been independent, obviously respecting the State, but I have always been very respected by the State during my management," he stated.
