P. Diddy: How the rapper's case 'turns a key' in hip hop

The P. Diddy case "turns a key" in hip hop, opening space for more open debates and more diversity.

"I think this case is a trigger, it opens an important debate, which was already being talked about within hip hop, about having more diversity, about listening more to what women have to say, what the LGBTQIAPN+ community has to say," explained Kaique.
"And precisely breaking this protection pact that exists, of not commenting on what the owner of your record label does, what your friend does."

In the podcast O Assunto, Kaique explained that, in the origins of hip hop, in the Bronx, New York, a culture was created involving a "pact" of people who come from the same place not to report friends and business partners, in addition to a macho and aggressive culture.

"Almost a fear of 'if I report him, I could be working against a cause that I also fight for, which is a person who is socially ascension and so on'."

Since he began to be investigated and, subsequently, received the conviction, celebrities have spoken little about the accusations against the rapper, the videos that came to light and the victims' accounts.

At the height of his fame, P. Diddy hosted million-dollar parties at his Hamptons mansion, attended by celebrities such as Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Will Smith, Leonardo DiCaprio and Donald Trump , as well as members of American high society.

"Hip hop is made up of elements, including music, graffiti, culture. But at the same time, it is a product of marginalized people. [...] It is the law of the streets: little feeling, a lot of aggression. Basically, it is a relationship of domination between neighborhoods, and this is reflected in the songs, it ended up being a behavior passed down from generation to generation."
