Palliative care: why is it a priority?

Palliative care is not a luxury, but a fundamental human need. And for this very reason, it should be an integral part of healthcare, not only because of the relief it provides, but also because of the improvement in quality of life it brings. There is no doubt about its importance and its role in the well-being, comfort and human dignity of individuals, so much so that the United Nations recognizes it as a basic human right, urgently calling on countries to treat palliative care as an absolute necessity. But recognizing it is not enough, when all the arguments seem insufficient to change the reality of access to this type of care and make it available to all who need it.
