Three million euros for companies in the areas of agricultural research and innovation

“We will have 3 ME for start-ups and each start-up will have 30 thousand euros to move forward, to foster precisely this research and this innovation. We will also challenge Confagri to nurture, to suggest, to show gaps that exist in digital or other terms, or applications, that these start-ups and this innovation may have”. The announcement was made today by the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries.
José Manuel Fernandes was speaking to an audience of more than 600 professionals at the national meeting of technicians from the National Confederation of Agricultural Cooperatives and Agricultural Credit of Portugal (Confagri) which began today and ends on Thursday at a hotel in Mortágua, in the district of Viseu.
The president of Confagri, Idalino Leão, who said that it was the meeting with “the most participants ever” asked the government for “much more investment, two pillars of the CAP [Common Agricultural Policy], because now is the time for concrete actions”.
Highlighted the change in legislation made within the scope of regional operational programs
For just over 20 minutes, the minister presented the work he has been doing since taking office 11 months ago, both in the Government and in Brussels, and highlighted the changes to the legislation implemented within the scope of regional operational programmes. “For the first time, the Minister of Cohesion and the Minister of Agriculture will be on an equal footing in the preparation of these regional operational programmes. This has never happened before”, he highlighted. In this sense, he also said that “only a very weak or foolish next minister will not demand that the regional operational programme include amounts for agriculture and, obviously, for rural development”.
José Manuel Fernandes said that a series of projects he has in hand linked to agriculture and, among them, “the two pillars - income and investment - of the CAP are “making progress”, contrary to what Europe approved and what France now also wants”.
