Trump, Milei and the risk of digital currencies

The President of Argentina, Javier Milei, and the President of the United States of America (USA), Donald Trump, share more than policies and a certain vision of society, they also share support and adoption of cryptocurrencies, which has not gone well.

Donald Trump has been criticized for launching his “meme coin,” a digital asset whose only value is the community that supports it, just before returning to the White House. “The Official Trump,” known simply as TRUMP, was launched by Donald Trump on his social media account, Truth Social, just four days before his inauguration as the 47th president of the United States. In its first two sessions, it rose 1,711% to $73.34 (around €69.9), before falling sharply to $16.92 (around €16.1).

First Lady Melania Trump also launched her own meme coin on the eve of the inauguration, but it fell 79.2% to $2.70 (around €2.57).
