A street in Porto Alegre's historic center will be closed to vehicles to host cultural events.

Starting this Friday (11) , Travessa Passarinho , in the Historic Center of Porto Alegre , will have its vehicle traffic blocked weekly to make way for cultural activities and urban events . The closure will take place every Friday, from 6 pm, until 11:59 pm on Sundays , transforming the space into an open-air gallery focused on coexistence and creativity.
Located between Sete de Setembro and Siqueira Campos streets , the crossing has narrow dimensions , considered incompatible with heavy traffic , according to a technical assessment carried out by the Public Transport and Circulation Company (EPTC) .
The measure is part of the Centro+ Program , coordinated by the Municipal Secretariat of Planning and Management (SMPG) , which aims to revitalize the Historic Center by enhancing public spaces , promoting tourism, the creative economy and the qualified use of the central region of the Capital.
With the temporary closure of the road, Travessa Passarinho will be the stage for festivals, fairs, artistic presentations and other cultural activities , consolidating itself as another point of economic and social dynamism in Porto Alegre .
