Aveiro 2014 Capital of Culture showcases itself at the AVANCA Festival

Born from an initiative developed by the production company Plano Obrigatório, the screening of works produced within the scope of Aveiro 2024 – Portuguese Capital of Culture celebrates the connection between cinema and the cultural identity of the city of Aveiro, standing out at the 29th AVANCA 2025 Festival. On display and with free admission, there will be the films "Cinema Nights" by Luís Diogo, "Para Lá da Porta" by Ana Carolina d'Antas, "Experimenta Música" by Costa Valente, and "Aqui, em Aveiro" by Joaquim Pavão. Each of the works integrates one of the themes that marked Aveiro's programmatic axes as Capital of Culture in 2024: Identity, Culture and Sustainability, Culture and Democracy, and Science and Technology. "Cinema Nights," written by Danilo Nascimento based on an idea by Martina Madejova, stars Susie Filipe, Ivo Prata, and Anabela Branco de Oliveira, all from Aveiro. The film addresses the theme of cultural identity and was shot in iconic locations throughout the city. “Para Lá da Porta”, written and directed by Ana Carolina d'Antas, stars Eloy Monteiro and Marina Leonardo, exploring the intersection between culture and sustainability. Costa Valente's "Experimenta Música" is based on an original idea by Swiss filmmaker Elena Petitpierre and stars actress Isabel Fernandes Pinto. Set within the theme of Culture and Democracy, the film reflects on the role of music in civic engagement. Finally, “Here, in Aveiro”, by Joaquim Pavão, features a cast that includes Ana Mafalda, Liliana Caetano, Rui Pedro Tendinha and Vítor Pardal, focusing on the relationship between the city and innovation, within the scope of Science and Technology. All the short films were filmed in various parishes and emblematic areas of Aveiro, including the historic center, traditional neighborhoods, São Jacinto beach, Esgueira, Azurva, Cacia and other locations in the municipality.
This session is part of the 29th AVANCA 2025 Festival, a joint organization of the Cine-Clube de Avanca and the Municipality of Estarreja, with the support of the ICA / Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, IPDJ, Turismo Centro, Junta de Avanca, Agrupamento de Escolas e Paróquia de Avanca, among several other local, national and international entities.
