Band with 1 million Spotify followers admits to being AI-generated

The group The Velvet Sundown , followed by 1.1 million fans on Spotify, admitted to being generated by Artificial Intelligence , confirming suspicions about the young rock band.
In its new description on Spotify, consulted this Tuesday 8 by AFP , the group admits to being “a synthetic music project guided by human artistic direction, composed (…) and illustrated with the support of Artificial Intelligence”.
“It’s not a hoax, it’s a mirror. An artistic provocation aimed at questioning the limits of creation, identity and the future of music itself in the age of AI,” the message also stated.
In just a few weeks of existence, the group with a 70s-style look has achieved sudden fame on Spotify, where it has 1.1 million fans, and has proven to be very productive by releasing two collections in 2025. The rapid rise has raised doubts among listeners and internet users who suspected that the group was an AI creation.
On the group's collections page, Spotify's rival Deezer had placed a warning indicating that it was "AI-generated content" and stressed that "some pieces in this collection may have been created with the help of Artificial Intelligence".
When asked by AFP , Spotify declined to comment on the group, but denied any intention of allowing the proliferation of AI-generated tracks to avoid paying royalties.
The rise of AI is raising growing concerns in the music industry and among artists, who fear being swallowed up by a wave of artificially generated music.
