Launched in July, the 10th edition inaugurated on Tuesday the work "List of burned books in Germany in 1933" by Spanish artist Miguel García Membrado, open to the public until Sunday.
Created in 2018, the video "proposes a more extensive reading of the archive, in which interaction with the work is essential to reveal its content", based on the idea that "only by burning the list is it possible to read the titles of the books burned in Germany in 1933", says the synopsis in a statement released by MNAC-MC.
Loops.Expanded is an international artistic and curatorial network dedicated to the research and dissemination of the concept and form of the 'Loop' - a cycle without beginning or end - and whose main objective is to exhibit works of video art and moving image pieces, promote symposia, masterclasses and colloquia.
Until September 7, the museum will also host exhibitions of works by Mexican artist Antonio Arango, "Ouroboros" (2018), between August 12 and 17, by British artist Natalia Sardi, "Scores for Mother & Daughter" (2024), between August 19 and 24, and by Spanish artist Eugenio Ampudia, "The Truth is an Excuse" (2007), on display between August 28 and September 7.
This year's edition opened with the immersive installation "Untitled for C, Rising Series", by Rui Soares Costa and André Gonçalves, about the repetition and movement of the tides, addressing contemporary themes, such as the relationship with the aquatic environment of the Tagus.
Loops was born in Lisbon as an initiative of the artistic structure Duplacena, and gave rise to a national video competition with five editions at the Chiado Museum, between 2015 and 2019.
It extended the partnership of exhibitions such as Loops.Extended - linked to other cities such as Madrid, Pisa and Amsterdam - through the support of the Directorate-General for the Arts, via DuplaCena, and patronage of Millenium BCP, and Lisbon City Council, through MNAC-MC.
