Músicas do Mundo sets up shop in Sines for a marathon of 39 concerts

As usual, today and Tuesday are quieter days, with three free concerts: Umafricana, a project by Portuguese-Guinean Sandra Baldé (today, at 7:00 pm); Susobrino (Bolivia/Belgium) and Queralt Lahoz (Catalonia - Spain), on Tuesday, at 7:00 pm and 11:00 pm, respectively.
In the auditorium of the Sines Arts Center, both at 10:00 pm, Mick Strauss will perform 'In the dark' (USA/France), today, and Sara Curruchich (Guatemala), on Tuesday, and tickets are required for these.
From Wednesday until Saturday, the number of concerts will increase to about a dozen daily.
Youssou N'Dour (Senegal), Julieta Venegas (Mexico), Rokia Traoré (Mali), Orchestra Baobab (Senegal) and The Mystery of the Bulgarian Voices (Bulgaria) are some of the highlights of the 25th edition of the FMM, which will also feature a tribute concert to Jamaican Max Romeo, who was scheduled to perform at the festival but died in April.
As usual, there is a significant presence of Portuguese-speaking artists.
Portugal will be represented by Lena d'Água (day 23, at 6:00 pm), Capicua (day 25, at 10:15 pm), Miss Universe (day 26, at 6:00 pm) and Bateu Matou (in the early hours of the 27th, at 3:30 am).
Bonga will play for Angola (day 23, at 00:45) and Roberto Chitsonzo for Mozambique (day 26, at 16:30).
Brazil will be present with Gabriele Leite (day 24, at 4:30 pm), Bia Ferreira (day 24, at 10:15 pm), Luca Argel (day 25, at 6:00 pm) and Nação Zumbi (day 25, at 12:45 am).
Fábio Ramos (day 24, at 6:00 pm), Fidjus Codé Di Dona (day 25, at 5:00 am) and Fidju Kitxora will bring the rhythms of Cape Verde (day 26, at 2:15 am).
Keeping with the motto "Music with a spirit of adventure", this edition of FMM, a festival organized by the Sines City Council, features artists from 34 countries, with debuts from Bolivia, Gabon, Guatemala, Jordan, Indonesia (Java) and Somaliland (a state seeking recognition).
In addition to music, the festival offers several parallel activities, including debates.
Today, at 5:00 pm, at Pátio das Artes, Priscila Valadão, Gracinda Luz and Shiv Kumar Singh will reflect on "Immigration and its biases", moderated by António Brito Guterres.
On Tuesday, at the same time and in the same place, the debate will be held on "Music: liberation and independence", with André Xina, Selma Uamusse and Roberto Chitsonzo and moderated by Andreia Galvão.
The program also includes exhibitions, book launches and even a Nepalese cooking workshop (sold out).
For children and families, there are shows, workshops (one dedicated to the tambourine and traditional singing), storytelling sessions and scientific outreach activities about the marine world.
Maria Mazzotta, Bia Ferreira, Fidjus Codé Di Dona and Roberto Chitsonzo will hold music workshops for children aged six to twelve on the 23rd, 24th, 25th and 6th, respectively, always at 11:00.
The now classic behind-the-scenes tours of the festival are already sold out and there is also the Record, Book and Poster Fair (Escola das Artes do Alentejo Litoral, from 4:00 pm to midnight).
The Músicas do Mundo Festival won the EFFE Award 2017, awarded by the European Festivals Association and, between 2016 and 2024, 14 Iberian Festival Awards, eight Iberian and six national.
