Inflation slows down in April and stands at 0.43%, according to IBGE

The National Broad Consumer Price Index (IPCA), considered the country's official inflation rate , was 0.43% in April. The data was released this Friday 9th by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics ( IBGE ). Once again, food prices had an impact, with coffee and tomatoes standing out .

The IPCA for April was higher than that recorded in the same month last year, when prices rose 0.38%. Compared to the previous month, March of this year, when there was an increase of 0.56%, the price variation in April was smaller.

In the year, accumulated inflation is 2.48%. In the last 12 months, the increase is 5.53%. The inflation target, defined by the National Monetary Council (CMN), is 3%, with a tolerance of 1.5 percentage points, which brings the ceiling to 4.5% for the year.

By sectors

According to the IBGE, the only group of prices surveyed that fell was transportation, with 0.38%. The others saw an increase. Highlights included health and personal care (1.18% increase), clothing (1.02%) and food and beverages (0.82%).

In the health and personal care group, the biggest increases were in pharmaceutical products, which rose 2.32%, influenced by the readjustment in medicines, which was authorized as of March 31.

The increase in food and beverages was lower than in March, when the group had inflation of 1.17%. Once again, coffee (with 4.48%) and tomatoes (14.32%) are among the products with the highest price increases.
