Viana do Castelo will invest more than one million in sanitation

The Viana do Castelo City Council unanimously approved this Monday an investment of more than one million euros, plus VAT, in basic sanitation works distributed in lots across five parishes in the municipality.
For lot 1, the municipal executive approved the opening of the public tender, for the base value of 186,669 euros, for the expansion of the wastewater drainage network of Deão, Mujães and Mazarefes, with an execution period of 150 days.
For the expansion of the wastewater drainage network and rehabilitation of the water supply network in Subportela, the opening of a public tender was also approved, for 503,578 euros, to be carried out in 210 days.
For Lot 2, which involves the remodeling of the wastewater and stormwater drainage network in Vila Nova de Anha, the municipal executive unanimously approved the project and authorized expenditure, totaling €378,852. The project has a 180-day completion deadline.
According to the proposal presented this Monday by the Mayor, Luís Nobre, the works are carried out under an application to Norte 2030 — Ciclo Urbano da Água em Baixa.
“Currently, sanitation network coverage in the municipality is 80%, with the municipality aiming to reach 85%,” states the approved proposal.
The document states that “an assessment was made of the most pressing needs for expanding sanitation networks in the parishes of Deão, Mujães, Mazarefes, Vila Nova de Anha and Subportela, locations with a high density of housing and land with low permeability, and the execution project was developed with the technical conditions necessary for its integration into Águas do Alto Minho (AdAM)”.
For the parishes of Deão, Mujães and Mazarefes, respectively, the increase in sanitation branches will cover 45 homes.
In Vila Nova de Anha, 515 meters of the wastewater network will be remodeled and six sanitation branches will be refurbished.
In this parish on the left bank of the Lima River, “the rainwater network will be built in parallel with the residual network, considering that this is a low-lying area where rainwater from all adjacent streets accumulates, in a project drawn up by AdAM”.
In Subportela, 1,195 meters of new wastewater network and 33 sanitation branches will be installed, connecting 33 homes.
“In the case of Subportela, the rehabilitation of a small water supply network will also be carried out, a project provided by AdAM, to benefit 12 homes,” the proposal states.
According to the proposals approved this Monday, the cost of the works will be divided between this year and 2026.
