'Shame on you and answer for what you did': Lula's criticism of Bolsonaro's attempt to pardon him

President Lula (PT) criticized on Friday night, the 8th, at a ceremony in Porto Velho (RO), the attempt by the extreme right to approve an amnesty bill for the coup plotters involved in January 8th. The main objective of the proposal is to facilitate a pardon for former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), who is due to go on trial in September at the Supreme Federal Court for leading the coup attempt.
"They're so cowardly they ask for amnesty before being tried. You ask for amnesty after you've been convicted," Lula said. "You haven't even been tried. You nerve, defend yourself. Prove you're innocent."
The PT member declared that Bolsonaro and his “cronies” have the right to the presumption of innocence — which Lula said he did not have in Lava Jato .
"Be a man, be ashamed, and answer for what you did. Don't whine," he continued, referring to the former captain. "He's a president who didn't have the courage to pass the sash to me. And now he has his henchmen asking for a pardon. No, he will be judged."

After difficult years , we've returned to a Brazil that feels at least a little bit normal. This new normal, however, remains fraught with uncertainty . The Bolsonaro threat persists, and the appetites of the market and Congress continue to pressure the government. Abroad, the global rise of the far right and the brutality in Gaza and Ukraine risk imploding the fragile foundations of global governance.
