Ukraine is willing to cede territory to Russia as part of a peace plan supported by European countries, reports British newspaper The Telegraph , adding that Zelensky has already conveyed this position to European leaders, while rejecting any cession of territory not under Russian occupation.
According to the newspaper, the Ukrainian President is thus open to a solution that would end the conflict and involve freezing the front lines, handing over to Russia control of the areas it controls in the regions of Lugansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhia, Kherson and Crimea.
Among the red lines Zelensky outlined for a deal are several security guarantees, such as arms deliveries and a path to NATO membership.
Zelenky's position, showing greater flexibility and not officially confirmed, comes just days before the meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin on Friday in Alaska.
The Ukrainian president said Tuesday that he believes Russia is preparing for a new offensive, given movements on the ground that indicate the Kremlin "is not preparing to end the war."
