Lawyer reminds drivers that technical inspection of personal cars has become voluntary

Lawyer Alexander Khaminsky reminded Russians about new amendments to the law "On technical inspection of vehicles." He gave details in an interview with RIA Novosti.

“A valid diagnostic card for a passed technical inspection will only be required if you are registering a vehicle that was manufactured more than 4 years ago...” the news agency quoted Alexander Khaminsky as saying.

The lawyer added that this concerns passenger cars used by drivers for personal needs. They will be issued an insurance certificate without mandatory vehicle diagnostics.

RIA Novosti noted that a technical inspection will have to be passed when transferring ownership of a car to a third party or in the event that the owner decides to earn extra money as a taxi driver.

Earlier, specialist Viktor Travin reminded Russians about the innovations in the rules for car ownership and vehicle diagnostics, which came into force on February 1, 2025.
