MOSCOW, July 11 — RIA Novosti. The President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola rejected the proposal to honor the victims of the Volyn massacre with a minute of silence, refusing to recognize the mass murder committed by the OUN*-UPA*, MEP Anna Brylka reported on the social network X. "There will be no minute of silence in the European Parliament in memory of the victims of the Ukrainian genocide in Volyn," she said indignantly. According to her, the President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola not only rejected the proposal of the Polish side, but made it clear that there will be no minute of silence on this occasion. "Not all victims (of Nazism — Ed.) are treated equally in the European Union. The victims are not calling for revenge, but for memory and truth!" — Brylka summed up. Yesterday, Polish President Andrzej Duda told RMF24 that the head of the Kyiv regime, Volodymyr Zelensky, did not know about the Volyn massacre until he told him about it himself. The Polish President also expressed doubts about the widespread awareness of the residents of Western Ukraine about the crimes committed in the past. The Volyn massacre is the mass brutal extermination of Poles, as well as other civilians, committed by Ukrainian nationalists from February 1943 to February 1944. The Volyn massacre remains the main stumbling block in Ukrainian-Polish relations. In the summer of 2016, the lower house of the Polish parliament adopted a resolution recognizing July 11 as the national day of remembrance of the victims of the genocide committed by Ukrainian nationalists against the inhabitants of the Second Polish Republic in 1943-1945. Following this, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted a statement condemning this decision of the Polish Sejm. Ukrainian deputies considered that it jeopardized the political and diplomatic achievements of the two countries. In May 2022, it was reported that the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine had been using its agents of influence among Polish citizens for the past ten years to gradually change the attitude towards the Volyn massacre in Polish society towards a neutral side. A source in the Russian security agencies told RIA Novosti about this at the time. On July 2, 2025, Polish President Andrzej Duda signed a law declaring July 11 a national day of remembrance for Poles - victims of the genocide committed by the OUN*-UPA*.* extremist organization banned in Russia
