Russian President Vladimir Putin has awarded the 155th Separate Guards Kursk Marine Brigade of the Orders of Zhukov and Suvorov the honorary title "named after twice Hero of the Russian Federation, Major General Mikhail Gudkov." The corresponding decree was posted on Sunday on the website of the official publication of legal acts. "To award the 155th Separate Guards Kursk Marine Brigade of the Orders of Zhukov and Suvorov the honorary title "named after twice Hero of the Russian Federation, Major General Mikhail Gudkov" and henceforth to be called the 155th Separate Guards Kursk Marine Brigade of the Orders of Zhukov and Suvorov named after twice Hero of the Russian Federation, Major General Mikhail Gudkov," the decree says. On Wednesday, the Russian Defense Ministry reported the death of Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Navy for Coastal and Land Forces, Hero of Russia Major General Mikhail Gudkov in one of the border areas of the Kursk Region during combat operations. Primorye Governor Oleg Kozhemyako called the deceased Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Navy a strong-willed warrior "who could not imagine himself anywhere except the fleet." Acting Governor of the Kursk Region Alexander Khinshtein said that the region will perpetuate the general's memory. Gudkov was born in Donbass. He graduated from the Novosibirsk Higher Military Command School. He led the 155th Marine Brigade of the Pacific Fleet, which took part in battles in the Kursk Region. In the fall of 2023, he was awarded the Gold Star medal of the Hero of Russia "for courage, heroism and skillful command of subordinate units." In March of this year, Gudkov was appointed deputy commander-in-chief of the Navy. Despite the promotion, he continued to coordinate the actions of the 155th Brigade, as well as other marine units, in operational mode.
