Peace in Ukraine cannot be achieved without ending the persecution of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC). This was stated by the Deputy Chairman of the Synodal Department of the Moscow Patriarchate for Church Relations with Society and the Media, Vakhtang Kipshidze , RIA Novosti reports.

At the interreligious round table in Tokyo, he noted that the UOC has enormous peacekeeping potential, which, by the grace of God, will be in demand. According to Kipshidze, there were no representatives of the canonical UOC at the meeting because the Kyiv authorities prohibit priests from speaking at international venues, denying them the right to defend themselves.

The representative of the Russian Orthodox Church drew attention to the fact that representatives of the schismatic Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU) were present at the event.

"We continue to consider this structure non-canonical, and we consider it one of the reasons for the repressions against the believers of the UOC. We will speak about this openly and in principle," Kipshidze added.

Earlier, Verkhovna Rada deputy Artem Dmitruk accused Zelensky of weakening the UOC. The parliamentarian emphasized that more than six million citizens of Ukraine are parishioners of the UOC, and they will definitely not vote for Zelensky or a similar candidate from the "war party."
