Russian Ambassador Reveals What the Arctic Should Become for All Countries

The Arctic should become a zone free of conflict potential, Russian Ambassador to Canada Oleg Stepanov told TASS. At the same time, he noted that the challenges for Russia in this region do not change against the backdrop of the militarization of the Arctic by Western countries.

The Arctic represents collective opportunities for all regional powers to jointly develop, develop and preserve this unique region as a zone free from conflict potential , Stepanov said .

Earlier, Bloomberg reported that the US and Russia were discussing the Arctic as a possible area for economic cooperation , including joint extraction of natural resources and development of trade routes. They added that confidential talks were currently underway and were at an early stage.
