Utility bills should be kept longer than the three-year period established by law, lawyer Srbui Ivaschenko told the Prime agency.
According to the expert, these documents can become important evidence in various legal situations. Although the law requires payment documents to be kept for three years, in practice they can be useful for resolving a wider range of issues.
Receipts for payment of housing and communal services help not only to confirm the absence of debt, but also to establish the fact of residence in a residential premises, to prove the conduct of a joint household or to confirm the timely acceptance of an inheritance. In legal disputes, they can serve as evidence of expenses, which is especially important in cases of alimony or division of property.
The specialist advises paying attention to the correct execution of receipts - they should clearly indicate the period and purpose of payment. It is better to make payments from a personal bank account in order to save electronic evidence of the transfer.
Earlier, Russians were reminded about fines for violating the peace.
