Why Travis Kelce Missed Taylor Swift’s New York City Weekend Celebration of Her Major Music News

Taylor Swift was in New York City this past weekend, celebrating the momentous news that she now owns all of her music, after buying the masters for her first six albums from Shamrock Capital. She spent Friday night with Jack Antonoff, then had dinner with Selena Gomez at Monkey Bar on Saturday. So why wasn’t Swift’s boyfriend, Travis Kelce, part of the festivities—especially since he’s currently in his offseason?

Turns out, he had a work commitment for a good cause. Kelce attended the Big Slick Celebrity Weekend benefit in Kansas City, Missouri, with his brother, Jason Kelce. The Kansas City Chiefs tight end participated in the event last year as well.

He showed his support for Swift’s big news on Friday when he liked her announcement post.

Swift and Kelce are in a good place as they approach their two-year anniversary. The couple was seen together during Memorial Day weekend, enjoying a dinner date in West Palm Beach, Florida. On May 27, a source close to Kelce told People that “Travis still seems very happy with Taylor.” The insider noted that Swift had been staying in Miami, where Kelce was training for his upcoming NFL season, “to support and spend time” with her partner.

Kelce was on Swift’s mind this Saturday, too. The singer wore a sartorial tribute to him while out with Gomez: a “TNT” diamond tennis bracelet from Wove x Michelle Wie West. E! noted that Kelce had given her the piece as a gift.

Swift hasn’t made any effort to hide her affection for Kelce during their relationship—in fact, she’s been openly supportive and enthusiastic throughout their time together. In a December 2023 interview with Time, Swift explained the reason why: “When you say a relationship is public, that means I’m going to see him do what he loves, we’re showing up for each other, other people are there and we don’t care. The opposite of that is you have to go to an extreme amount of effort to make sure no one knows that you’re seeing someone. And we’re just proud of each other.”
