Italy has begun issuing Schengen visas to Russians with territorial restrictions prohibiting entry to a number of European countries.
According to the SHOT Telegram channel, citing Russian tourists, their visas contain a special clause. It prohibits entry to seven countries: the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, France, Iceland, Latvia, and Lithuania. According to the clause, the ban applies not only to the final destination but also to transit through these territories.
In practice, this means that airport systems automatically block Russian citizens from checking in for flights to these destinations. Security measures have been tightened for train travel: visas are checked by special inspectors. It's worth noting that the list of countries closed to entry is not universal. Some applicants have visas with no restrictions, for example, to the Baltic countries, indicating that each case is being handled individually.
Visa centers, according to a source, note that this is the first time they've encountered such a practice. This situation reflects the new realities and complexity of the Schengen visa application process for Russians, given the current geopolitical situation.
There have been no official comments from Italian or EU diplomatic agencies at this time, leaving room for questions regarding the uniform application of such restrictions.
