In 2025, the Nizhny Novgorod Region has strict bans on the extraction of aquatic bioresources in certain places and during specific periods. To avoid fines and not harm nature, it is important to familiarize yourself with the current rules in advance.

Some areas of water bodies in the region are completely closed to fishing:

  • The section from the Gorky Hydroelectric Power Station dam to the junction of the old Volga channel with the lock canal, including the canal itself.
  • The upper pool of the Gorky hydroelectric power station dam, the Pazukha reservoir.

Only recreational shore fishing is permitted (without boats), using a float rod with a maximum of two hooks .

🚫 From April 15 to June 15 - you cannot fish with any gear, except for a float or bottom rod from the shore (up to 2 hooks) , but only in places that are not official spawning grounds.

🚫 From April 10 to June 10 - a complete ban on fishing, except for one float or bottom rod.

🚫 From April 1 to June 10 — fishing is only allowed from the shore, using no more than two hooks on a float or bottom fishing rod.

🚫 From December 20 to March 15 — fishing is prohibited in the following sections of rivers:

  • Sura (500 m above and below the mouths of the Ognevka, Medyana, Urga, Pyana).
  • Ognevka (from the mouth to the borders of the Sheremetyevo settlement).
  • Medyana (to the village of Kamenka).
  • Urga (to the village of Shokina).
  • Piana (to the mouth of the Leleika).

🚫 From October 1 to April 30 — fishing in wintering pits is prohibited.

🚫 Year-round ban on the use of "sub-nets" and the use of seine nets in the Oka River and its main tributaries.

  • Sturgeons (all species).
  • Lamprey .
  • Black-backed herring .
  • Caspian puzanok .
  • Whitefish .
  • Brown trout (freshwater form) .
  • Grayling .
  • Bitterling .
  • Chub .

Violation of the established rules will result in fines and confiscation of equipment!
