Call from the Istanbul Medical Chamber to Murat Çalık

Sent from Marmara Prison to Izmir Buca Kırıklar Prison, Beylikdüzü Mayor Murat Çalık was taken to intensive care for an angiogram after experiencing health problems.
Ahead of Çalık's arrest investigation, which will be held today at the Çağlayan Courthouse, the Istanbul Medical Chamber assessed Çalık's health. The assessment concluded that Çalık's health condition was unsuitable for prison and that he should be released.
"MUST BE EVACUATED"
The written statement made by the Istanbul Medical Chamber is as follows:
Beylikdüzü Mayor Mehmet Murat Çalık's health condition is not suitable for prison; he must be released immediately. Our professional chamber has learned about the health of Beylikdüzü Mayor Mehmet Murat Çalık, who is currently imprisoned in the İzmir Buca Kırıklar Penitentiary Institution, from news reports published in the press. Following this, we met with his lawyers, and learned about his past health through medical procedures performed at İzmir Atatürk Training and Research Hospital. Çalık, diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML-M4) and Mucoepidermoid Carcinoma, underwent bone marrow and lymph node biopsies due to suspicion of recurrence. Ultimately, a committee report was issued, outlining the seriousness of the situation, stating that the patient could contract an infection, develop sepsis, and die. While a medical report indicated that his current health condition was unsuitable for prison, the patient was taken back to Buca Kırıklar Penitentiary yesterday. Experiencing chest tightness, the patient was first taken to Buca State Hospital and then transferred to İzmir Atatürk Training and Research Hospital, where he was admitted to the coronary intensive care unit and underwent an angiogram. Both his current condition and the negative developments yesterday demonstrate that it is impossible to continue the patient's follow-up and treatment under penitentiary conditions. Therefore, we believe it would be appropriate to release the inmate, while preserving his right to access healthcare.
"IF IT IS POSSIBLE FOR US TO PARTICIPATE IN THE DETENTION REVIEW..." Murat Çalık's lawyer Melih Koçan's statement is as follows:
"If it is possible for us to participate in the detention review this time, we aim to provide direct information about our client's current health status and present the vital risks to the discretion of the judicial authorities."
