Call to Ban Trump from G7 Summit
Jagmeet Singh, leader of Canada's opposition New Democracy Party (NDP), has called for US President Donald Trump to be barred from attending the G7 Summit.
Singh made assessments about Canada's presidency of the G7 Summit this year.
Citing "threats to democracy, sovereignty and global stability", Singh demanded that Trump be barred from attending the G7 Summit.
"Why would we invite someone who threatens our democracy and sovereignty?" Singh said.
Noting that Trump's actions and policies were damaging international organizations, Singh said the G7 Summit was "an opportunity to work together with allies to counter Trump's threats to the world."
US President Trump said on February 14 that Russia should be readmitted to the G7, which consists of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK and the US.
TRUMP'S STATEMENTS "LET CANADA BE THE 51ST STATE OF THE USA"US President Donald Trump has frequently reiterated his rhetoric about Canada becoming the 51st state of the US during the election campaign and since he took office. In his latest statement, he said, "I say Canada should be our 51st state. No tariffs, no nothing. And I say let's give them military protection."
