Minister Tunç: Every year 60 thousand convicts and detainees gain professions

Minister Tunç, in his written statement, noted that efforts were being made to rehabilitate convicts and detainees in penal institutions and that in this context, convicts and detainees were provided on-the-job vocational training through the Workshops Institution. Tunç stated that the workshops continued to operate like factories and that production was carried out in many areas, from furniture to textiles, from construction and repair to food and agricultural products. Noting that there were 1,700 workshops and facilities under 371 workshop directorates throughout Turkey, Minister Tunç stated that an average of 60 thousand convicts and detainees participated in production activities and acquired a profession every year.
'IT CONTRIBUTES TO OUR NATIONAL ECONOMY'
Minister Tunç said, "The purpose of criminal justice is to protect society from crime. We work to rehabilitate convicts and reintegrate them into society with the practices we implement during the penal execution phase. In line with this purpose, we provide on-the-job vocational training through our Workshops Institution and carry out production activities in more than 200 professions. While our Workshops operate like a factory where production never stops, they also contribute to our national economy by offering domestic products produced in workshops to our citizens."
