Payment method for gold imports has changed

"The Presidential Decree on Amendments to Decree No. 32 on the Protection of the Value of Turkish Currency" was published in the Official Gazette and entered into force.

With the decision, the Ministry of Treasury and Finance was authorized to regulate the import of processed precious metals according to different payment methods.

In current practice, the Ministry was only regulating the principles regarding the import of unprocessed precious metals.

The Ministry's "Communiqué on Amendments to the Communiqué on Decision No. 32 on the Protection of the Value of Turkish Currency" was also published in the Official Gazette.

According to the circular, processed precious metals can be imported with the payment methods of "cash", "cash against goods", "term letter of credit", "acceptance credit", "cash against documents" and "free of charge".

However, until December 31, 2026, the import of processed gold will only be possible with the payment methods of "cash against goods", "term letter of credit" and "acceptance credit".

Processed gold imports can be made with a "free" payment method, in accordance with the procedures and principles determined by the Ministry.

If the customs declaration regarding the import of processed gold, the value of which was transferred abroad before the regulation, is registered within 60 days, the import can be carried out with all specified payment methods.

The circular will come into force tomorrow.
